Monsef has been a Member of the National Assembly of Quebec for the Nelligan constituency since 2018. He serves as the Parliamentary Leader of the Official Opposition and is the Official Opposition Critic for Ethics, Democratic Institutions, Transportation and Sustainable Mobility, and the Election Act.

He holds a Ph.D. in Public Health, an MBA in Business Administration, a Master's in Science and Technology, and is also a certified Corporate Director.

Beyond his political and academic careers, Mr. Derraji has a passion for chess, which he shares with the students in his constituency by organizing the "MNA'Tournament" an event now in its third edition. His commitment to youth and community involvement is reflected through this initiative.
